Emotionally Attached A Book Review on Buyology: Truth and Lies About Why We Buy
Abstract
Neuromarketing – or the study of the brain’s response to advertising (Lutkevich, 2022), takes the limelight in Martin Lindstrom’s “Buyology: Truth and Lies About Why We Buy.” In this review, the author’s revolutionary approach to advertising and marketing is explored, consequently unveiling the subconscious forces that influence consumers’ purchasing journey.
Akin to a quantitative study with a well-defined scope and rich related literature, Lindstrom examines the concepts of imitation, subliminal advertising, somatic markers, sensory branding, rituals, and superstitions, and how they motivate purchasing decisions. Presented in a familiar, friendly, and layman-oriented style, Buyology offers valuable insights into consumer behavior by highlighting the importance of brand value, emotional connections, and ethical advertising.
